Right, football fans—strap in. The UEFA Champions League last-16 draw is here, and we’re about to find out who each team will face. The draw kicks off today at 11:00 AM GMT in Nyon, Switzerland, following the conclusion of the play-offs on the 19th of February 2025.
Club Brugge vs Aston Villa
Borussia Dortmund vs Lille
Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen
PSV Eindhoven vs Arsenal
Feyenoord vs Inter Milan
Paris Saint-Germain vs Liverpool
Benfica vs Barcelona
This year’s Champions League has a brand-new format than in previous years. The top eight clubs are paired based on their position at the end of the league phase to form four seeded pairs. In this year’s case (if you needed a reminder), here are the top eight that avoided the stress of the play-offs and booked their place early:
Liverpool
Barcelona
Arsenal
Inter Milan
Atlético Madrid
Bayer Leverkusen
Lille
Aston Villa
So, the seeded pairs would be as follows: 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 5th and 6th, 7th and 8th.
The teams above in each seeded pair are then drawn into one of two positions in the round of 16 against the winner of the knockout stages. For the ucl draw, four bowls are set up with the balls containing the names of each pair of seeded team!
Then its pretty straight forward, starting from the 7th and 8th pair, they’ll chose the teams and set up for what will be an exciting last 16.
To sum up, the top eight will face the bottom eight of the 16.
The play-offs delivered their fair share of drama (and defensive disasters). Some notable results:
Bayern scraped through 3-2 on aggregate thanks to Alphonso Davies scoring a last-gasp equaliser. Celtic, to their credit, made them work for it—before inevitably collapsing when it mattered most.
A heavyweight battle that ended with Real Madrid knocking out City (the 2023 winners) a spectacular score of 6-3 on aggregate win.
Eindhoven narrowly beat Juventus in an incredible performance which ended in a 4-3 aggregate win. Juventus’ earlier-than-expected eliminations is what this new format is all about.
PSG showed absolute class against Brest and is defiantly a team to look out for the title. The results ended in a 10-0 aggregate win for PSG and is sure to give them confidence going into the last-16.
So, the usual suspects are in, alongside a few surprises. Now, let’s get into the fun bit—what the draw could actually throw up.
