We don’t have to imagine what the world would look like if a zombie hoard came-a-calling. And we don’t mean taking a walk through an average city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning. Thanks to Microgaming and Slingshot Studios, Zombie Hoard is the slot that shows us just what the apocalypse would look like. And good news, it’s not as bad as The Walking Dead makes it out to be. The zombies are cute and we’ve got plenty of chances to win with Super Stacked Wilds. So a zombie apocalypse wouldn’t be so bad, after all.
It’s all pink and green on Zombie Hoard Slot the colours of rotting flesh and brains. But it’s nowhere near as gory. The five reel, nine payline slot has a cheeky feel to it, in a similar vein to the epic Machine Gun Unicorn slot from Genesis Gaming, with cartoon drawn characters (though less of a rocking soundtrack). The four zombie characters that make up our high paying symbols – the Policeman, Nurse, Maid and Chef, are all drawn with massive teeth and giant eyes. No doubt the better to see with. Though they’re helping us to chomp down on wins rather than Little Red Riding Hood or similar hapless zombie fodder.
Sometimes simple is what we need on our slots and simple is what we get on Zombie Hoard. With a low amount of paylines, it’d be easy to think there wouldn’t be much action taking place. However, it’s all the little things on this slot which makes it a subtler affair. Tokens attached to the low value card symbols, Super Stacked reels and Free Spins all work well together to keep the game flowing. And it does it with a soundtrack befitting the bobble headed zombies.
Like older Microgaming slots like the still classic three reel Cash Splash, the game’s logo is the Wild in Zombie Hoard. This brings back a nice nostalgic feeling as we use it to help create winning paylines. When it lands on the third and fourth reels, it can become Super Stacked to make even more chances of winning. The Brain is the Scatter and can trigger Free Spins when it appears three, four or five times. We also collect Brain tokens which are attached to the low value symbols. They’re collected in a little stash on the side and once we collect 30 or more, we trigger the Free Spins feature. When we get around to using our spins, we can use up to 34 after building up our collection. And we can use Super Stacked Wilds along with a 2x Multiplier. All these subtle extras all add up, culminating in 2,388 times our stake on each Free Spin!
