It’s official. 2017 is going to rock for Microgaming. The award-winning Isle of Man developer took to the stands at the ICE Totally Gaming Expo to announce its flagship releases for this year.

Anyone over Microgaming’s Twitter feed will have seen the pictures of the amazing floating lights setting the Microgaming stand apart from the others. Together with the brilliant #MicroCastle sand sculptures to celebrate the impending release of the Castle Builder II™ online slot.

This is big news. Ever since Microgaming entered into a deal with Rabcat in 2014 to grant MG the exclusive rights to distribute Rabcat’s games, we knew this relationship would be special. And so it proved. Castle Builder™ helped to revolutionise the way we think about online slots. And it bore a new word to our iGaming lexicon: gamification.

That’s right. Titles like Castle Builder™ are not just slots. They are games, too. Level-based labyrinths that sprawl like real-time adventures. And by Microgaming’s own admission, Castle Builder II™ is bigger, better and more buildery. The spiel says that this sequel provides players with “an entirely new world. Throughout the game, players unlock exciting achievements as they build various castles by collecting the finest materials from kingdom to kingdom.”

Spiel or not, we can’t wait. And judging from the response at ICE, neither can the industry.

If you haven’t seen the trailer, watch it here. Any resemblance to Game of Thrones is purely coincidental. Honest.
