As online and mobile slots strive to be more innovative, Play ‘N Go releases Diamond Vortex. Set in deep space, the reels are arranged in three concentric rings. It is a similar concept to that of the Aeterna slot from Black Pudding Games, both games boldly going where no slot has gone before and playing especially well on mobile. Unlike Aeterna, the Diamond Vortex slot uses a recognisable Cluster Pays system which sends the rings spinning around after every winning combination to complete new combos.
Wild symbols add multipliers and modifiers to boost wins, while Bonus Scatters award 5 free spins for each symbol that lands in one of the Zones that start at the top of the rings and move as each ring twists.
Pros & Cons
- Innovative gameplay.
- Use of modifiers can earn substantial base game wins.
- Up to x20 multiplier.
- Tricky to land Bonus Scatter in the Zones.
- Only 5 free spins awarded for each Scatter
- Six symbols are required for a cluster win.
How to Play
Select your bet level from the bet toggle under the game rings and press the green spin button. Symbols fall onto the game rings, completing wins when six or more symbols connect adjacently in any shape, rather than the five symbol combos you need in many other Cluster Pays games. The centre symbol is a Core Wild – a permanent Wild – that substitutes for all other symbols except Bonus Scatters.
New symbols fall into the empty symbol spaces to complete further winning combos, while the rings rotate thanks to the Rotate feature after each win to mix up the combos even further. In a revolutionary example of game development from Play ‘N Go, each ring has its own Zone and Spot – the Zones sit at the top of the rings and the Spots at the bottom. The Zones remain static and trigger features when either spots or bonus symbols enter them, while the Spots rotate as the rings rotate. The Zones and Spots activate various bonus features and modifiers (see bonus section).
The symbols on Diamond Vortex are variously coloured gems, meteorites and rocks. The set of low-paying gold, blue, green and red shapes all pay up to x10 your bet for landing a cluster of 35+, while the higher-paying symbols of the same colours pay between x20 – x100 your stake for the top payout. The Wild W symbols – particularly popular in space age online slots like Play ‘N Go’s Reactoonz 2 slot and NetEnt’s Starburst – substitute for all other game symbols except Bonus Scatters. The Wilds are also responsible for triggering some of the bonus features and modifiers. The game’s Bonus Scatter triggers five free spins when it lands in any Zone.
Play ‘N Go uses modifiers to boost base game wins in many of its slots, including Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness. The Wilds are the key to the modifiers in Diamond Vortex, while the Bonus Scatter launches the dedicated feature.
