King of Slots
Last Updated
All hail the King of Slots online slot! Five reels of (vaguely) royalty-themed fun from Swedish gaming giants NetEnt. Is it the highness or the lowness. Grab the ermine, blow the dust of that crown, and get ready for some regal reels. NetEnt is an online casino software developer that exploded onto the scene in 2011, with the launch of Gonzo’s Gold. It was an original, beautifully animated, game that perfectly showcased the potential for online slots. It was a key moment in the development of gaming software.

The King of Slots is not Gonzo. It’s a fun game to play but it’s about as innovative as a Jurassic Park sequel. Released in 2015, the online slot has sat on its throne for nearly a decade – and there’s a reason why. It may not have a perfectly rendered 3D Spanish conquistador at the helm, but it does have a very high return to player of 97%. The graphics may be basic, but the game play is quick and the wins hit hard and fast.
What the King of Slots lacks, in depth and design, it makes up for in both function and game play. NetEnt has scores of heavy hitters in its portfolio. Ironically, this regally-named slot is one of the little guys. Let’s dig in.
King Of Slots Look and Feel
The King of Slots has a surprisingly utilitarian feel, for an online slot with royal roots. The game opens with the NetEnt logo, followed by a splash screen detailing the slot’s main features: free spins, sticky wins, and wilds. The action then cuts to a standard five by three grid. The look and feel is crisp and clean. At the bottom right-hand side of the screen, smiling vacantly with wild staring eyes and a curly moustache, is the eponymous man of the hour: the King of Slots – complete with crown, sceptre, and velvet frockcoat.
The game has a minimal feel. The colours are a mish mash of royal blue and purple, set against a dark background. With the exception of the cartoon-styled king, it’s fairly sombre stuff. As with nearly every NetEnt game, the controls are well-designed, clearly positioned, and easy-to-use.

The audio is also slightly bizarre. You may have (reasonably) expected some French horns, a choir, and a regal blast of the strings. What you get is a quasi-jazz funk quartet, working the kind of soundtrack you would expect to hear as the backdrop to a trendy airline safety video.
When you hit play, you get the click and roll of the reels, accompanied by a sonic stab when you land a winning combo. If you keep hitting sticky wins, the audio increases in pitch, ending with a brassy flourish. It’s good. But regal? Maybe not.
How To Play King Of Slots
The King of Slots is very basic looking online slot, but it does have a few surprises up its ermine coated sleeve. The biggest surprise is the Sticky Win feature. It’s the main reason to take this online slot for a spin.

The slot has 25 paylines, paying from left to right. When you land a winning combination, with three or more symbols, you activate the feature. Basically, the winning reels are held and the other reels spin again. If you hit more winning combinations, the reels spin again.
This repeats until there are no new wins. We completely filled the grid once during the demo play. If only it had been real money. It’s an attractive boost and it adds a little excitement to every small winning spin.
The King of Slots also comes with both a wild and a scatter, as well as a bonus game. It may be weak on brand and visual appeal, but it is a game with a lot of action.
On the main screen, you can set your bet: anything from 25p to £250 a spin. Go easy on the big ones. There are also both turbo play and auto play options. These will probably not be available on UK versions of the game.
So, now you have your stake set, you can then choose whether you want to take advantage of autoplay which means it will do all the spinning of the reels for you. All you need to do is sit back and let it take care of the gameplay. If you prefer a hands-on approach to playing online slots, then all you need to do is hit the play button and away you go! Once you hit play, the reels will spin and this is where the 25 paylines might come through for you!
King Of Slots Symbols
If you were expecting sceptres, ermine, castles, and thrones, you are in for a disappointment. The base game symbols are the card rankings, from ten to ace. These re followed by some golden, jewel-encrusted, fruit: a cherry, lemon, and watermelon. The latter is worth 12x your line bet, if you hit five on a winning line.
Finally, the jackpot symbol is the king’s crown. Line up five of these on a winning payline and you pocket 40x your total bet. Don’t forget: in the King of Slots online slot – all active wins are paid; you can get multiple wins from a single spin.
The remaining two icons are the scatter and the wild. The wild is large blue emerald. It substitutes for all symbols, excluding the scatter. The scatter is a trio of rubies; you need five or more to activate the Free Spins bonus round.
King Of Slots – Our Verdict
On first appearance, the King of Slots is a rather dated and dull game. However, there is nothing like a little bit of hands-on experience to change a mind. At the end of our testing session, we were all doffing our caps to this regal high roller. It is a simple game but the sticky wild features really adds value.
However: the music is awful. It’s not just the complete disconnect with the game. It’s simply awful in its own right. It’s the kind of bland music that would make a 50/50 suicide jumper take the fast track to the ground floor. It’s so bland, you’ll be reaching for that little known Celine Dion album in search of a rush.
But… music is not really what online slots are about. Hit the mute button and pay your dues to this little royal dude with the big smile.
King Of Slots Bonuses
The King of Slots comes with a pretty royal bonus round of Free Spins with multiplier. In regular game play, you also get to enjoy the delights of a sticky win.
