The results have been nothing short of sensational, with celebrations and heartbreak.
If you missed the opening games, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered!
We’ve watched all the games for you and come up with the standout fixtures and performances you need to know.
From the roar of Gerwyn Price to the tears from James Wade, we’ve got it all. Plus, we’ll go over the next couple of games that you need to mark on your calendar.
Update 1 – Gerwyn Price through to the next round!
The former PDC World Champion, Gerwyn Price, is through to the third round of the World Darts Championship 2024. He sailed through, beating Keane Barry in 3-0 straight set matches. Price, one of eight World Champions in this year’s incredible lineup, was met with a reception of boos from the crowd as he stepped out. Though this didn’t affect the Welshman, he eased through with routine straight sets, conceding just two legs. We all know Price to be a typically slow starter, but whether the boos fired him up or not, he was uncharacteristically quick off the start. Like a man on a mission, there was nothing getting in his way against Barry. He opened with a marker of a 100 average and an impressive high checkout of 112. Of course, not forgetting his trademark lion’s roar to mark his satisfaction with his performance, he did what he needed to return after Christmas.
Update 2 – James Wade Out of the Race
Jermaine Wattimena dumps out James Wade in a sensational upset from the opening darts results. The four-time semi-finalist Wade won’t be progressing in the World Darts Championship 2024 after being thought to be a contender for the Sid Waddell Trophy. This is the second time Wade has fallen at the first hurdle since 2006 at the iconic Ally Pally, and to make matters worse, he is the first seeded player out of the running. He didn’t go down without a fight, halting Wattimena’s run by taking out tops for a 15-darter, but it wasn’t enough for the Englishman. However, we’ve got to give credit to Wattimena, as it’s now his third time in the World Darts Championship third round. His performance was outstanding, and he insists that he’ll make personal history moving forward in this PDC Championship. He will face either Wesley Plaisier or two-time champ Peter Wright, so we eagerly await those darts results.
Update 3 – Luke Humphries Wins Straight Sets
Luke Humphries, a man that needs no introduction, opened his bid for back-to-back World Darts Championship titles. He did not disappoint, beating the French number one Thibault Tricole. On impressive form, ‘Cool Hand’ Luke opened very quickly and took the first set 3-0 with ease. He came to life in the second with an incredible 160 checkout on tops in the second leg, which led to another clean sweep in set three to mark his dominance within this championship. Luke has started his campaign off terrifically, but the question on everyone’s mind is: will he join the likes of Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis, and Gary Anderson by becoming the fourth player ever to win the Sid Waddell Trophy back-to-back? Humphries is undoubtedly a major force in this tournament, but anything can happen. This 2024 PDC World Championship will be full of surprises, and we can’t wait to watch the results.
Final Thoughts - What to Look for Next
So, what games are you looking forward to? We have a couple of lineups we predict will bring some tasty results. Noa-Lynn is the first-ever transgender player to compete at the PDC World Darts Championship. She’ll play on Tuesday the 17th at 12:30 PM against Kevin Doets. The 28-year-old qualified due to her sensational performances in the PDC Women’s Series. On Friday the 20th at 7:00 PM, the former world champion Michael van Gerwen will face either Hurrell or Long. He will be setting his eyes on glory to continue his campaign to win the trophy again. Another former world champion chasing the title again, Gary Anderson, will face either De Graaf or Sweeting on Sunday the 22nd at 7:00 PM. One name on everyone’s lips, Luke Littler, will be in action on Saturday the 21st at 7:00 PM, where he’ll take on Meikle or Sherrock. The Nuke’s road to the final will be tough, but it starts with this one game.
