Las Vegas Grand Prix 2025 Results: Verstappen Commands the Strip

The 2025 F1 season touched down in Las Vegas for another spectacular night race, and the city delivered its usual blend of glamour, unpredictability and high-octane drama. Fans packed into the street circuit for the third running of the Las Vegas GP, and the stage felt primed for a classic. What unfolded was a fascinating mix of early chaos, dominant pace and a post-race shock that rewrote the standings.

A chaotic F1 getaway reshapes the Qatar race

Lando Norris arrived with momentum and converted his speed into pole position after a strong showing in F1 Vegas qualifying. He lined up ahead of Max Verstappen with Oscar Piastri just behind, setting up what looked like a McLaren versus Red Bull showdown under the neon lights.

Once the lights went out, everything changed almost instantly. Norris ran wide at the first corner and that single moment opened the door for Verstappen. The Red Bull swept through into the lead and immediately looked comfortable out front. The rest of the field jostled cautiously through the opening sector and it became clear that Verstappen had no intention of giving the position back.

As the laps settled, Verstappen built an advantage that kept growing. His rhythm was calm and controlled, while behind him Norris tried to regroup and hunt down a way back into contention. Piastri stayed firmly in the mix too, shaping what seemed likely to become a double podium for McLaren. For most of the race, that felt like the story we were heading towards.

A dominant F1 race drive followed by a title twist

Verstappen crossed the line more than 20 seconds ahead of the next car, securing a comprehensive victory and underlining his strength on street circuits. Norris finished next on the road with Piastri also bringing home a strong result.

Then the post-race checks changed everything. Scrutineering revealed excessive wear on the rearmost skid blocks of both McLaren cars. Since the skid blocks must meet a minimum thickness, this automatically meant disqualification for Norris and Piastri.

McLaren had looked set for a significant haul of points, so the mood flipped quickly. Their absence reshuffled the standings in a major way and turned an otherwise predictable result into a headline event.

Final Las Vegas Grand Prix results

With the two McLaren cars removed from the result, the revised order fell into place:

  1. Max Verstappen
  2. George Russell
  3. Kimi Antonelli
  4. Charles Leclerc
  5. Carlos Sainz

Russell inherited second after managing his steering issues through the race, while Antonelli earned his first podium of the season after a remarkable climb from deep in the grid. Leclerc and Sainz collected valuable points too, each benefitting from the late reshuffle.

It was a reminder of how technical regulations can shape the outcome of a Grand Prix long after the racing stops. For teams, the smallest detail can mean the difference between celebrating a podium and leaving empty-handed.

Las Vegas Grand Prix 2025
Driver of the Day

Fans were quick to recognise the standout performance of the evening. Verstappen won the Driver of the Day vote with more than a quarter of the total responses. Antonelli’s charge earned him a strong share as well, and Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris rounded out the top five in the fan vote.

Given Verstappen’s speed, consistency and ability to control the race from Turn 1 to the finish, it is easy to see why the Formula 1 vote swung so heavily in his direction.

What this means for the 2025 championship

Before arriving in Las Vegas, Norris held a comfortable lead in the 2025 F1 standings. The disqualification changed the complexion of the title fight instantly. With Norris losing his points from the race and Piastri also dropping out of the classification, Verstappen closed the gap significantly. He now sits just 24 points behind, with Piastri level with the Dutchman.

Only two rounds remain in the 2025 F1 schedule and one of those includes a sprint, which means the maximum points available across the final stretch could still reshape the season. Suddenly the battle looks wide open again and all three of the main contenders can picture a path to the championship. The pressure heading into the next event will be intense.
