Managing his tyres brilliantly and executing a perfect pit stop strategy, Russell never lost control of the race. After throwing away a potential podium here in 2023, this was the ultimate redemption; a clinical drive from lights to flag.
Russell claimed his fifth career win and second victory of the 2025 season, banking a crucial 25 points. It was a clear statement: Mercedes is back in the fight.
McLaren Crowned Champions – But Sparks Fly
While Russell took the top step, the biggest celebration was in the McLaren garage. With solid finishes from both drivers, McLaren secured their second consecutive Constructors’ Championship, locking it in with six races to spare. Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc finished sixth for Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton endured a rough race. Brake issues in the second half and a late penalty dropped him to P8, in a frustrating night for the seven-time champ.
But the fans’ hero was none other than Fernando Alonso. Starting P10 and suffering a disastrous nine-second pit stop, the veteran Spaniard clawed his way back with trademark aggression and daring overtakes. His spirited drive—and his ever-entertaining radio chatter—earned him the official Driver of the Day award.
