What a week of sport it’s been! It’s not been a great week for the bookies’ favourites!

The only man who managed to post a score under par in the US Open, JJ Spaun, walked away with his maiden major victory. Pre-tournament favourite Scottie Scheffler continued his impressive form with yet another top ten finish.

In the Canadian Grand Prix, McLaren’s near-perfect start to the season came to an abrupt halt. Languishing in fourth and fifth, with five laps to go, Lando Norris aimed to overtake his teammate Oscar Piastri to no avail, instead going for a gap that didn’t exist and slamming into the pit wall. George Russell of Mercedes dominated from start to finish from pole and claimed his first win of the season.

So, without further ado, let’s go over our tips for an exciting sports packed week!

ROYAL ASCOT 20th– 21st JUNE

Notable Royal Ascot Races:

  • 20th June 2025 – Commonwealth Cup (Group 1)
  • 20th June 2025 – Coronation Stakes (Group 1)
  • 21st June 2025 – Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (Group 1)

Royal Ascot is in full swing and there’s already been some sparkling performances underneath the London sun this week. Looking ahead to the last two days of Royal Ascot racing, we have highlighted three of the most intriguing races left for you to enjoy during the remains of the festival.

COMMONWEALTH CUP SELECTION: SHADOW OF LIGHT (13/8)*

First up for our Casino Kings betting predictions blog this week is the Commonwealth Cup, one of the standout races on the Friday of the festival.

Despite a competitive renewal of this race, filled with talented three-year-old colts, we have sided with Shadow of Light for the Charlie Appelby, William Buick and Godolphin combination.

The favourite comes here off the back of a fine third in the English 2000 Guineas behind fellow Godolphin horse Ruling Court and Irish 2000 Guineas winner Field of Gold, arguably the two best three-year-olds of this generation.

With that fine form in the book and a nice break from the track for the Appelby runner, we believe he can give William Buick yet another Royal Ascot winner.

The main competitors for Shadow of Light are Irish pair, Babouche and Whistlejacket, the pair finished first and second respectively in the Group 3 Lacken Stakes last time out. Both have an extra run under their belt this season, which has included a win over the six-furlong distance.

Despite this, we are expecting the two to be competing for runners-up honours behind the Godolphin blue.

CORONATION STAKES SELECTION: FALAKEYAH (3/1)*

Our selection in this race comes in the form of supplemented filly Falakeyah trained by Owen Burrows. The Pretty Polly winner hasn’t been seen since her impressive seasonal debut run at Newmarket and we are tipping her to make it three from three in her career on Friday.

Track concerns and a dirty scope ruled the filly out of Epsom and Chantilly respectively, which could be seen as a negative, however this looks quite a weak race on paper and the Shadwell runner will be hard to peg back from the front if she has her way

There’s a host of fillies looking to break Falakeyah’s 100% record at Royal Ascot though. Amongst those is controversial winner of the French 1000 Guineas Zarigana, the French filly was awarded the race in the steward’s room last month despite falling short on the track to She’s Perfect.

Despite this, Zarigana was heavily supported in the betting ring before the off so the French racing community must think extremely highly of their new champion! Despite the strong support for Zarigana, we think the Coronation Stakes may be staying in the UK this year!

QUEEN ELIZABETH II JUBILEE STAKES SELECTION: LAZZAT (7/2)*

Despite thinking the Coronation Stakes won’t be heading to France, one race we do think may be heading across the channel is the Queen Elizabeth!

Recently purchased Wathnan Racing owned Lazzat heads the market and certainly sets the standard for us here at Casino Kings.

Lazzat has become quite the globetrotter in recent months flying over to Australia, then returned to France ahead of the European flat season. After routing a competitive field at Chantilly last time out, Lazzat comes to Royal Ascot in top form and will prove a tough nut to crack.

A solid British contingent will provide Lazzat with stiff competition, this includes Royal Ascot 2024 winner Inisherin.

The Kevin Ryan trained colt lost his way towards the end of the 2024 season however has started the 2025 season on top form by taking the Group 2 Clipper Stakes at York.

Other potential competitors in this race include Storm Boy, Topgear and Flora of Bermuda, however here at Casino Kings, we expect the Wathnan horse to take all the beating!

SELECTION: ENGLAND (8/13)*

It feels like a long time since England have played a test series. Excluding a one-off test against Zimbabwe in May, England haven’t played test cricket since an impressive series win in New Zealand before Christmas 2024.

Last summer lacked test competition for England, successive series victories against West Indies and Sri Lanka made it a comfortable summer for the hosts. This year, they face a much stiffer task during a five-match series against India.

Following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli earlier this year, India arrive in the UK with a fresh-faced batting line-up hoping for a rare series win on English soil.

Under new captain Shubman Gill and with consistent bowling threats Jaspirit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, the Indians will believe they have the ammunition to cause the hosts some serious problems.

The series is likely to be won and lost on the battle of England’s bowling versus India’s batting. England’s seam attack is still looking to find consistent answers to the loss of James Anderson and Stuart Broad whereas India has gaps of their own to fill due to the retirements of Kohli and Sharma.

Here at Casino Kings, we’re backing England’s bowlers to start the series off on a positive note and give India’s new look batting lineup a rough time in the first test at Headingley.

BRITISH AND IRISH LIONS VS ARGENTINA 20th JUNE

SELECTION: BRITISH AND IRISH LIONS

We’re hardly sticking our neck on the line with this selection, but the Lions should most definitely be starting off their hectic summer of rugby with a win against Argentina. Anything else but a comfortable win would be an early wake up call for Andy Farrell’s side.

It’s the first chance for Farrell to look at his team ahead of their tour of Australia and a great chance for several Lions players to put an early marker down before they head south.

The Lions have several players joining up to the squad rather late due to club commitments, so the lineup against Argentina will most likely be far away from the team that lines up against the Wallabies in the first test on Saturday 19th July in Brisbane

Playing a game on home soil is a rarity for the Lions, with this only being the Lions third ever game in either Britain or Ireland. On the last occasion, back in 2005, the Lions faced Argentina before a tour to New Zealand to face the All Blacks. On that occasion, the Lions stumbled to a 25-25 draw, before a 3-0 whitewash defeat to the All Blacks.

Here at Casino Kings, we’re tipping the Lions to get off to a much better start against Argentina twenty years on.
