How do we start to describe the Lucky Leprechaun Slot? Well any game that starts with the message, “Welcome to me game. Best o’ luck to ye, and watch out for me pot o’ gold. Hehehehe!” has to be on to a winner. Our unseen leprechaun friend does say something else before that, but I can’t quite make out what it is, and I’ve heard it a number of times.
At least we know it is therefore proper Irish. So I smiled, nodded (as you do) and got on with this lilting ode of an Online slot. So it is, to be sure.

Apart from the lovable introduction (which seems to change every time – a nice personal touch), the game world launches with a wonderful fiddly piece of music. I don’t mean it’s tricky, but it’s played on a fiddle. And it’s just lovely. Every time we hit “Spin” we are treated to a tiny fiddle note on top – a fantastic flourish. Look closely and you’ll see some sparkles twinkling wherever we move the cursor, spreading the magic throughout the game.
The game is played across five reels and 20 paylines, and Microgaming have decidedly and deliberately created a game with a distinctly old school feel. I don’t mean this disparagingly – in a world of online gaming which uses video clips and animations we can, somewhat like babies, become overstimulated. It’s nice to be able to pare things down and enjoy an online slot that is playability at its forefront.
Our symbols are quintessential Ireland – the Lucky Leprechaun himself, a beautiful fiddle (you can never have too much fiddling), some pints of stout (I’m sure it’s not Guinness, if only for the sake of royalties) and a wispy pipe, while the Lucky Leprechaun game logo is a stacked Wild during our base game that gears us up nicely for the bonuses.
Bonuses
Although the leprechaun’s intro does sound a bit like a warning (“Watch out for me pot o’ gold!”) I’m pretty certain he didn’t mean it. It seems as he was just kidding – this leprechaun only turns Wild during the Free Spins feature – five free spins with a x2 multiplier – that triggers when we land a Scattered Shamrock anywhere on reel 5. Landing additional shamrocks during the free spins round will launch additional extra free spins and multipliers too. But the main bonus feature in this slot is the Trail O’ Fortune Bonus, triggered when we land three, four or five Gold Pot Bonus Scatters with incremental multipliers to boot.
We spin the wheel to move along the trail, and each step of the trail holds a multiplier. The step we finish on will be the multiplier we land from the bonus game, which could be a whopping 1000x our total bet. Gulp!
