The England Women’s Cricket team jumpstarts their 2025 with a trip down under for the Women’s Ashes 2025. Starting on the 11th of January, England are looking to win the Ashes for the first time since 2013-14. The last time they met the Australian team two years ago, the Aussies came out on top and have retained the Ashes since 2015. The English squad will be after redemption to bring the trophy home. We’ll go over everything you need to know about this series, how it works, the schedule including dates, times, venues, and both squads. For all cricketing fans, this is a must-read before the start of an epic clash of two titans of the cricketing world.
What is the Women’s Ashes and how does it work?
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or new to the cricket world, it doesn’t hurt to go over the basics. So, what is the Women’s Ashes? It is essentially a multi-format series consisting of three one-day internationals (ODIs), three T20 internationals, and a one-off, four-day Test match, which this year is a day-night game. Now, how does it work? Well, there are points awarded in each game, with the winning team gaining the most points. Each white-ball game earns two points, while a win in the Test is worth four. If there is no result, tie, or abandoned match in the white-ball matches, it results in one point each (for the Test, they would earn two apiece). Essentially, the Women’s Ashes 2025 is out of 16 points. If both teams gain eight points, then Australia would retain the title, having won the year before.
The beauty of this multi-format series is the way it showcases the versatility of women’s cricket. It combines the thrill of shorter formats with the drama and endurance of Test cricket, ensuring there’s something for every type of fan. Whether it’s the explosive batting of T20, the tactical depth of ODIs, or the tradition and grit of Test cricket, the Women’s Ashes promises a feast of entertainment for cricket lovers worldwide.
